The MXR, whilst lacking a few of the options of other pedals such as tap tempo it has possibly the best analogue pedal delay sound in pedal form.
It has firstly a great footprint size. It is no bigger than a Boss DD pedal so fits on most boards. It again has the side mounted power input that we are banging on about at the minute meaning you can get other pedals nice and close together so no space is wasted.
The actual pedal is arranged with the triangular knob set up, Mix, Regen and Delay time all on a tiny pedal. These dials give so much control over the total delay speed, saturation and amount meaning it has been perfect for everything from a country slapback through to longer delays.
There is one other very cool function on this pedal. In the top left corner there is a tiny Mod button. This adds chorus to the outbound effect, and is a great sounding chorus effect. This effect can be trimmed by taking the back off the pedal where there are 2 internal pots that change the width and speed of the chorus. We have never changed them as the default setting is a great sound already, but if you want to experiment you can get some great sounds from playing around with all the settings, including a convincing tape echo setting!
The delay sound is very clear and crisp but has that fantastic warm sound that you would expect from an analogue delay, with a nice decay sound that almost cracks a lot like a tape delay. This can be further enhanced by changing the pots in the interior of the pedal.
We don’t think that there are any pedal out there at the minute that are of the same size that touch this pedal. There are a few that have more functionality, the Strymon pedals and the Eventide pedals are awesome but are much bigger and are not true analogue. They are are all digital and whilst the Strymon is very good at emulating analogue, the fact is, it isn’t!
The more complicated pedals are all exactly that, complicated. The Carbon Copy is very simple to use and if you turn it on and like the mod effect, it becomes even more simple. It is basically, how much, how fast and how often! We like simple easy to use things that can be changed on the fly, and this is perfect for it.
If you are looking for a great delay pedal with plenty of versatility that wont take up too much floor space look no further.
Pros: Awesome size / Bight LED / Great size / Great price / Heavy duty casing / Nice colour / Added Modulation / Simple to use
